Questions exporters ask

The regulation

The EU operator placing the coffee on the market is legally responsible for the statement. In practice the importer cannot file without the plot geolocations, supplier records and harvest dates that only you hold. Many buyers now require the exporter to supply a complete statement or they will not contract. Kaawa files as your agent under your TRACES credentials.

Uganda is classified standard risk in the EU's country benchmarking. Standard risk means full due diligence and a mitigation plan wherever risk is not negligible — a colour-coded cell is not a methodology.

It has slipped twice. What you build on Kaawa — a verified garden registry, farmer records, a custody ledger, yield data — also serves organic and Fairtrade certification, agricultural finance and buyer programmes. None of it is wasted if the date moves again.

Working with Kaawa

Yes. Request a managed survey and a vetted partner in your district maps the gardens, priced per garden. Suppliers with no paperwork at all become compliant through ground evidence we collect: photos, canopy, planting year, the farmer's own attestation.

We classify it as likely-true or likely-false, gather counter-evidence, and build a Contest Pack a person signs. When the flag is right, you get a mitigation plan instead, with owners and due dates, attached to the statement.

It depends on how much of your supplier base is already mapped. An exporter with a clean farmer list and self-serve field staff can file within weeks. With managed survey across several districts, plan for ten to twelve weeks, most of it walking. Production filing also depends on your TRACES credentials being active — start that today.

Per bag of coffee shipped, tiered by your annual volume, and nothing is billed until a statement is accepted. Managed survey and contest cases are priced separately because not every exporter needs them. Rates depend on volume, prepayment and contract terms, so we quote rather than publish — request a demo and we'll quote for your volume in the meeting.

Data and trust

No. Farmer-level data is never sold to buyers, and we do not trade on aggregated supply intelligence. It is a contractual prohibition in our terms, not a line on a pitch deck.

GDPR from day one — farmer data collected in Uganda flows into an EU regulatory system, so it applies regardless. SOC 2 and ISO 27001 are not yet held. A security whitepaper is in preparation, shared under NDA, and we will say exactly where we stand at every stage. We will never claim a certification we don't hold.
